Selecting scenery

You can select one or multiple scenes to appear in Aquatica 3D.
If more than one scene is selected, Aquatica will randomly choose one from the selected scenes the next time the screen saver is activated. If you only want to display one particular scene, only select that scene and deselect the rest.

To select a scene

  • Press the Scenery button
  • Select the scene you would like to display
  • Press OK to save your changes.

Scale factor

Each scene has a scale parameter and a perspective parameter. The scale parameter does not scale the scene itself, but will zoom the 3D camera for that particular scene in and out, making the fish appear larger or smaller.

In addition there is a perspective parameter, this will make some fish appear closer than others giving you the illusion of distance but will also have an effect on the Scale parameter, so you will need to adjust the scale and the perspective sliders until you have the depth of field to your liking. All scale parameters in Aquatica 3D are relative to each other.

To scale a scene

  • Press the Scenery button
  • Select the scene you would like to scale
  • Press the Properties button
  • Select Scale factor and adjust the slider
  • Press OK to save your changes.

Hint: Scaling scenery too much will make the fish swim through scenery objects and not around them

Water color enabled

A water color can be set to display a shaded water color tint in your scene. This can be turned on or off.

To turn water color on/off

  • Press the Scenery button
  • Select the scene you would like to change
  • Press the Properties button
  • Select Water color and set the value of the check box on or off
  • Press OK to save your changes.

Note: Not all 3D graphics cards support this feature.

Selecting a Water color

The color shading for the water can be set

To set a water color

  • Press the Scenery button
  • Select the scene you would like to change
  • Press the Properties button
  • Select Water color and adjust the three sliders to the desired color
  • Press OK to save your changes.

Light Cycling

Light cycling will fade the lights on from light to dark over a period of time. Depending on the intensity of the sunlight and moonlight will determine how light or dark the background will fade.

To set Light cycling on/off

  • Press the Scenery button
  • Select the scene you would like to modify
  • Press the Properties button
  • Select Light cycling and set the check box
  • Press OK to save your changes.

Sunlight intensity

Sunlight intensity operates in conjunction with light cycling. This is the maximum amount of brightness that ican be displayed when the light cycling is turned on.

To set the Sunlight intensity

  • Press the Scenery button
  • Select the scene you would like to modify
  • Press the Properties button
  • Select Sunlight intensity and adjust the slider
  • Press OK to save your changes.

Moonlight intensity

Moonlight intensity operates in conjunction with light cycling. This is the maximum amount of darkness that is displayed when the light cycling is turned on.

To set the Moonlight intensity

  • Press the Scenery button
  • Select the scene you would like to change
  • Press the Properties button
  • Select Moonlight intensity and adjust the slider
  • Press OK to save your changes.

Scene perspective (Zoom)

The perspective parameter will make some fish appear closer or further away to each other than others giving you the illusion of distance or closeness. If the value slider on the perspective parameter is at 0, it will give the impression that the fish are swimming close up (as though inside a small fish tank). If it is set to 100, they will swim far into the distance (as if they were swimming in the ocean). The perspective parameter will have an effect on the scale parameter, so you will need to keep adjusting the scale and the perspective sliders until you have the desired depth of field.

To set the Scene perspective (Zoom)

  • Press the Scenery button
  • Select the scene you would like to modify
  • Press the Properties button
  • Select Scene perspective and adjust the slider
  • Press OK to save your changes.

Selecting water reflections

The Water reflections can be turned on or off. Water feflections are the ripples effect that appear in 3D scenery. Water reflections will only appear on 3D backgrounds. Water reflections will not appear in scenery created with Scenery Maker

To change your water reflections

First Download and install the new water reflections from the Aquatica download library. Then open the Aquatica 3D settings box.

  • Press the Scenery button
  • Select the scene you would like to modify

  • Look in the folder called "caustics" located in your Program Files\Aquatica 3D\Caustics open the folder containing the water reflection then click on the file inside the folder and press Open
  • Press OK to save your changes.

Hint: Water reflection can decrease the performance of Aquatica 3D if your 3D graphics card is not able to run at the appropriate speed.
